Coding updates are coming out starting in October 2021 with the 2022 ICD-10 coding books. Followed by CPT and HCPCS books in January 2022.

The changes promise to be significant:

  • 27 Revised Codes

  • 25 Deleted Codes

  • 14 Converted to Parent Codes

• CPT

  • 249 New Codes

  • 63 Deleted Codes

  • 93 Revised Codes

  • 15 Vaccine Specific Codes

AMA said 43% of the editorial changes in the 2022 CPT code set are tied to new technology services described in Category III CPT codes and the expansion of the proprietary laboratory analyses code set.

AMA created five CPT codes to report therapeutic remote monitoring, 98975, 98976, 98977, 98980 and 98981

Coded have also been created for principal care management, allowing physicians to report care management services for patients with chronic conditions, 99424, 99425, 99426 and 99427.
